Luminosity — Ignite the Night!, often shortened to Luminosity, is a nighttime show performed nightly at Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio. It opened on June 8, 2012 and runs daily until the end of August. A similar show is in the works for during HalloWeekends.

The showEdit

Luminosity starts at 9:15 every night and runs for about 45 minutes. It features 4 singers, 25 dancers, 3 drummers, 2 cirque dancers, and 2 D.J's on a 75-foot (23 m) stage. Iron Dragon is closed during the show. There is also an exclusive V.I.P. seating in the Pepsi Fan Zone.

Several types of new and old music are used in the show. Older songs are given a modern remix with a pop/rock arrangement. Guests are able to send text requesting songs from the DJ's playlist. About 20 songs are used in the show such as, On the Floor by Jennifer Lopez, Moves like Jagger by Maroon 5, The Edge of Glory by Lady Gaga, Party Rock Anthem and Sexy and I Know It by LMFAO, and Raise Your Glass by Pink. The music matches each segment of the show. For example, E.T. by Katy Perry is played during the Space segment.

The pre-show simulates a "firefly" catching with hot spots and interactive zones. Guests can participate in dancing and many other activities. The stage is used during the day for dancers in the show to give previews of Luminosity.

"Welcome to Cedar Point's Luminosity, Ignite the Night. A journey across land and sea that blasts into outer space." Opening annoucement.[1]There is a countdown to when the show begins similar to when the Ball Drops in Time Square on New Year's Eve. A firefly "jar" explodes revealing a massive light. The music and drummers will then start encouraging dance and partying. An announcement is made when the show starts and the dancers start dancing to On the Floor by Jennifer Lopez.

[2][3]Luminosity — Ignite the Night!*Land – The first segment focus's on land and cityscapes. Video of cities around the country are showed.

  • Sea – The second segment of the show focus's on the Seas. Sounds of waves crashing on the shore and rapid light changes will be seen. Cirque performers dressed as Sea Sirens will add to the experience.
  • Space – The third segment focus's on outer space and video of outer space is shown. The point of view of astronauts landing on the moon is showed with the sound of mission control being heard. It also features fire that represents a space shuttle launching. Dancers will dance as if they're on the moon and neighboring planets.

The show ends with a firework show over the stage then there is a live DJ. The DJ is on the stage playing music and taking song requests. Performers wear light up costumes and join the guests on the midway. The finale also features "water drumming".

Celebration PlazaEdit

With the new show, the Iron Dragon midway was fully transformed into a whole new area. It is called Celebration Plaza and features an all new atmosphere. The area features curved edges creating a modern feel with in ground LED tiles and strips and Bling-Crete. The giant screen used for Hot Summer Lights was taken down on February 28, 2012 because it will not be needed for the new show.[3] A new entrance and queueing area was built for Iron Dragon because the new stage is where Iron Dragon's queue and entrance previously were. Also, the control booths used for Hot Summer Lights were relocated to the side of the midway.[4] On May 2, 2012 it was announced that WildCat would be removed before opening day to expand Celebration Plaza.[5] WildCat was fully removed a few days later.

Carly Rae Jepsen held a concert on the Luminosity stage on July 7, 2012. It was free with admission and was the first concert on the stage.[6]
